The concept of natural herbs has always existed from the stone ages. Early men used to cure themselves with leaves or mud. That was continued by the sages who practiced herbal treatment, and the process continued for a long time. Ayurvedic concepts are still relevant and researched by western medicine practioner. India is the third-largest economy in terms of consumption. However, with the increase of chronic diseases, the lifespan of people is reducing. This is compelling the government and the healthcare department to emphasize and re-evaluate the need for a better healthcare infrastructure.

Different Platform for the Distribution of Medicines:
Two platforms that provide medicines to the customers are:
The retail pharmacy, also termed as traditional pharmacy or a brick and mortar pharmacy and the online pharmacy also termed as the digital pharmacy.

Door Steps Delivery of Medicines:
Digital pharmacy or online pharmacy became more renowned after the commencement of 4G internet in the country. When every other business started going online, making more profits, digital pharmacy also chose this path to enhance their business. However, many other factors also compelled the industry owner to advertise their company brand, holding the hand of the internet. Some of the instances are market competition, anxiety to make more profit, engage more customers, expand the business root in the global platform.

Due to COVID 19, the pharmacy business got uplifted. Both brick and mortar and digital pharmacies got engaged in providing medicines to the people in every possible way. However, the implementation of lockdown compelled people to stay indoors, benefiting digital pharmacies. People started relying on digital pharmacies so that they do not have to step out and get the delivery on their doorstep.

It is believed that online pharmacies always faced many criticisms that helped this sector to show their effort more to the customers. After 2018, the Indian government came out with a few regulations in favour of digital pharmacies.

Following all the rules and regulations, digitalpharmacies in India are now providing services to their customers. They are trying best to maintain the authenticity and the integrity of the medicines. The main factor which they are concentrating more on is on the doorstep-delivery of drugs. A person who is holding a license under the Drugs and Cosmetics rule, 1945, has accessibility to the door step delivery of medicines.

The Principal Aspects of the Doorstep Delivery of Medicines are:

  • Concentrating on customers' needs and demands before accepting the medicines order: What are the medicines and its combination which the customer is looking for or what they always search for, should be the prime factor for the provider to concentrate. It makes it easier for both consumers and sellers while dealing with each other. Also, customers gain trust in the company and its digital application.
  • Prescription Verification: As per the government norms, every digital pharmacy should scrutinize the prescription provided the customer for authenticity. As per the norm, if the patient is suffering from a chronic disease then the prescription should be dispensed to the licensee within 30 days of its issue. And in case of acute diseases, the prescription should be dispensed within 7 days of its issue.
  • Data maintenance: To run a smooth and hassle-free business, the digital pharmacies need to do the proper documentation, and record of all the transactions should be maintained. They should authorize company invoices and bills to the customers through email that will help in tracking the data for future reference. Also, there will be no trust issue between the buyer and the provider.
  • Packaging: Customers expect good packaging while receiving the products. In the case of medicines, the expectation raises as this is something that the patient will consume, so its integrity becomes the main factor. If digital pharmacies take extra care of this factor, they could grab the customer's real attention, and the customers will remain stuck to their application.
  • Delivery: The final step before dispensing the order is the proper delivery of the products. Medicine is one such thing for which customers do not prefer to wait for a long period. However, digital pharmacies in every possible way take two to three days for doorstep delivery. So, digital pharmacies should concentrate more on delivering the medicines on a committed date and time, that will help their business to flourish on a good note.
Conclusion:
Digital pharmacies are boon to society in the present pandemic scenario. The government is also emphasizing on the need for the betterment of the healthcare infrastructure. Digital pharmacies are enhancing and adhering to access the medicines to the majority of the under-served population. And doorstep delivery is one of the prime weapons they used to fight the battle.
